butter for ice creamButterfat in Europe is selling for over $3.70 a pound while butterfat here is headed in the opposite direction…it doesn’t make sense. Then again it didn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense during late 2014 and 2015 when butter in the U.S. was over $3.00 a pound and European butter was less than $1.50. One thing we have learned as it relates to the price of U.S. butter…it will behave as it wants, when it wants – kind of like a spoiled 2 year old. We didn’t expect this downward price pressure – especially going into the beginning of the holiday season when butter is normally in demand and prices increase. Currently, if this situation persists, we will probably lower mix prices for October.  Stay tuned…
